San Marino 2021- Senhit with ‘Adrenalina’

Following last year's mediocre attempt with ‘Freaky’, Senhit has gone for the top shelf this year with ‘Adrenalina’:

Let's start of on the main thing here, and that is the song, which is excellent. In semi 2, Serbia and Moldova have been blown out of the water here, whilst this flows better than the same writers’ Cyprus. Its the best up-tempo pop song yet. It's appropriately repetitive, catchy and the production is great. The rap bridge (we'll get there) is always a safe way to add some variation and build into a pop song and again is better than Cyprus’ nanana el Diablo bridge.

I'm not surprised to see this become an immediate fan favourite and whilst a bit of that may be the lols and shock of San Marino being good, the little San Marino narrative is one that could gain traction. Whilst fans may overate this because of the country, its important we don't overlook this for the same reason.

Senhit is not bad as a performer, although it's only fair to say she may be a bigger concern than the song. Styling and restrained dance moves pending, she might be able to carry this off.

Of course, the big question mark is Flo Rida, which is something I never thought I'd write in a San Marino review. If he shows up, this could go big. Don't underestimate the effect a big name, even one not particularly current, can have on perceptions and credibility, both with the televote and ‘music professionals’. That's how he's able to charge whatever sum he wants for a verse and 30 seconds in front of a green screen. That's just how the industry works.

The alternatives, either a video link/hologram or someone else are not as appealing, and having started playing the name game, failing to see it through could backfire on San Marino.

Senhit jigging about in front of Flo Rida on the screen, or grinding against his hologram would undermine the effort. If its another rapper, that should have been the plan from the start really-the song is good enough to carry that and people would still be hyping it. Senhit - it's in for a penny in for a pound now, give dat man his money and your investment may pay off.

Until that is sorted it's hard to predict this. ‘Fuego’ is the obvious staging framework, and there are ways this could look very good, if time and money are in enough supply, and again depending on Mr. Rida.

This is the hardest entry to try and call this year with so many unknowns. It could be top 5 if everything comes together or a shock non qualifier if there's a vocal and staging disaster. It's one to be open minded on, without getting carried away, and that competitive rating could easily move 2 either way.

Personal Rating: 9/10. Competitive Rating: 7/10 Early Prediction: Semi Two 4th-8th, Final 7th-12th
