Georgia 2024: Nutsa Buzaladze with ‘Firefighter’

After internally selecting Nutsa Buzaladze, Georgia have landed on ‘Firefighter’ as their entry for Eurovision:

Georgia are very much following last year’s path so far in selecting a promising artist and then ending up with a pretty incoherent song. It’s almost as if despite trying harder this last couple of years, they are unable to shake off their past comprised of pretty out there stuff which may best be described as “sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit”. What we have in ‘Fireighter’ is a generic, hook-less song that thinks it is more interesting than it is, going overly loud on the vocal throughout to try and grab some attention.

That vocal is good and Nutsa looks the part but there’s nothing here to encourage the televote too much and they would have been far better served going for a few other of the submitted entries instead that are floating around if you care to search them out.

It is pretty clear that Nutsa will have dancers for Malmo which means Georgia may have at least learned from last year’s non descript staging. Georgia are never the most armed in terms of allies or diaspora but this semi and draw has gone almost as well as they could have hoped for and gives them a chance to get through. Having all the songs now there, this is as borderline as it gets and may be on for roughly 55pts. If this does get through, some juries may reward what should be a strong vocal and professional performance but this would be really hurt by the added tv competition and could end up around 20th.

There are signs of life in Tbilisi and Georgia won’t be starting next year as my dead last in the odds but there is still a lot to learn for the delegation if maximising their result is the new goal and Nutsa may be another opportunity wasted.
