Melodifestivalen 2024: Semi 1 Preview
Tonight's Melfest Semi final isn't one for the ages but there is an interesting battle for qualification shaping up. Let's have a quick run through in running order:
Adam Woods - Run of the mill uptempo pop. Adam doesn't hugely convince neither in performance or name power. It's not a bad opener but it's a shame the evening doesn't kick on from here. Poll results concerning.
Samir & Viktor - Pretty dull song from the pair and whilst enough staging is thrown at it it's all a bit messy and vocally poor. I lose count on of this is their 3rd or 4th time now doing this same schtick and it's never been a hugely fruitful venture anyway. Votes probably taper off too strongly and should limit this to Andra Chansen/Semi 6/semi 5 added time playoff at best, where it has no chance.
Melina Borglowe - Just nothing here to get into and unfortunately for Melina I can't see anything else coming last. Disastrous poll results but this is more for the older crowd, though I expect them to also ignore it mainly, just too plain. At least it has a warm colour palate compared to the sea of blue tonight? That's something I guess.
Elisa Lindstrom - Classic schlager entry and that's your lot. These entries aren't supposed to re-invention the wheel but it's staged well and will please it's target audience. Typically see the older demographics appreciate these with younger groups really not impressed and that looks set to continue given yesterday's poll results Took some early 10+, sold around 6 for a free run. Not impossible.
Lisa Ajax - Not a bad song at all but a few contradictions here, namely in Ajax being quite clearly older and visibly pregnant yet still delivering this teen heartbreak anthem combined with Axel Hirsoux-esque staging. Mothering of a different sort. Vocals are pretty good, cautious of a pregnancy bounce and positive coverage on the night and going 5th should help somewhat vs her Q rivals. Was keen on this as an outsider and someone's eagerness to lay highs of 7, has me with a pile at 4.4 avg. I think I'll let that run to in play at least with it shaping up a close h2h with Woods.
Smash Into Pieces - Should win the semi given USP and pimp slot, staging brings some energy but this is a dissapointing return. The early 1.5 to win the semi looked good but don't have any personally. Not a lot of point speculating at this stage - curious they have shortened in to win the whole thing, which has given me a chance to back out of that one.
