Portugal 2023: Mimicat with ‘Ai Coracao’

On Saturday night I set Portugal the challenge to change my mind on their impending NQ and they have done the best they could with that in selecting Mimicat:

Ai Coracao' is a song with an identity and usp and Portugal are fortunate to have selected this in this year. There are times when the sleepy ballads of FdC can fly but the dynamics of semi final one in the televote only mean this is one of those years where something more immediate is necessary. The balance between something authentically Portuguese yet still accessible is handled well here and this is a catchy entry.

Qualification is still a question given the competition and the first half draw and I'm not certain where any big points come from.

Being closer to the end of the season means these “early predictions” are somewhat less early and I should be landing closer hopefully. Right now Portugal is borderline in my opinion, perhaps fighting with The Netherlands and Croatia for the last two spots. If this does reach the final I can see juries coming on board moderately but the televote would shrink away.
