Poland 2021- Rafal with ‘The Ride’

After years of being rumoured, Rafal Brzozowski has finally got the ticket to Eurovision and will take ‘The Ride’ to Rotterdam:

Poor Rafal is rivalling Belarus’ effort for fan apathy, if this extends to the diaspora it could be an issue for Poland. I’m not really interested in any of that but what I will say is that the vocal is underwhelming at best and that’s in the studio version. The fella also comes across as trying too hard to be cool and does appear to be lacking in some credibility to pull this off.

‘The Ride’ is nothing special as a song but is a competent, relevant effort. It’s hard to see this getting too much jury love in the semi, but baring a staging nightmare should avoid the lower reaches.

The televote is going to be a problem here I suspect with this not being the best semi for Poland in terms of getting that diaspora vote through and they certainly can’t rely on that alone. It’s a really bad semi for this too, incredibly up-tempo (particularly the first half) but this is also less competent than Greece’s 80s inspired number and less fun than the throwbacks of Iceland and even Denmark. This has all the markings of one that is going to get lost in the mix. Should this scrape through the final, another bottom 5 looks likely in the final. Poland should be better at this competition than they are.

Personal Rating: 3/10 Competitive Rating: 5/10 Early Prediction: Semi Two 10th-14th, 19th-24th in final if a qualifier.
