Bulgaria 2022: Intelligent Music Project with ‘Intention’

Unlike previous years, Bulgaria are taking a more no-nonsense approach this time around, not only naming the act but releasing the entry in record quick time:

This is just a really weak effort and one that should be thankful for YouTube's dislike count hiding.

Dated, repetitive, unremarkable production, lack of any energy- 'Intention' is basically a check list of what not to do in a rock entry. We're so far off the pace here that we don't even need to discuss the whole Maneskin and not copying the previous winner angle. Whilst this might fall into that loose genre, this is a world apart in terms of quality, with the biggest compliment I can make is that garage bands everywhere can believe they too can make it to Eurovision.

Rather than a misguided attempt at repeating the success of rock last year, it's pretty clear that Intelligent Music Project were either the first thing that came through BNT's door or the cheapest, or more likely both. A drop off in effort was always going to come for Bulgaria but its only with the release of 'Intention' that you realise quite how sudden and steep it has come, even with the many alleged shenanigans behind the scenes.

Based off all of this I don't have much hope that the staging will elevate this at all and the prospects look quite bleak for May.

It's quite something that even before the semi allocation draw we can chalk this up as a fairly certain NQ.

Personal Rating: 2/10. Competitive Rating: 1/10. Early Prediction: NQ, 14th-18th in sem
