Greece 2021- Stefania with ‘Last Dance’

By all accounts this song has been in the dream team’s draw for at least half a year and Greece have chosen now is the time to share it with us:

Greece are a country that have lost their way somewhat, the strongest in the 2000’s but tailing of badly in the last decade. The top 10 has gone from being an expectation to an excellent result with qualification far from guaranteed most years. The ‘Dream Team’ too have begun jobbing around the continent, still getting calls from the odd country wanting to win whilst also paying the bills helping the likes of Estonia qualify. It’s difficult to know what the goal is with either anymore which made trying to second guess what ‘Last Dance’ would be like rather difficult.

In the end, the reports of a Dua Lipa inspired track were spot on with this having some striking similarities to ‘Physical’ in places. I know a few people had heard this and the general impression I'd gathered was ‘yeah, it's good’ without anyone being particularly blown away

I'd go along with that. Kontopoulos is at his best when not trying to fit something into a ‘Eurovision formula’ and instead trying to produce something modern and chart-able.

Stefania is likeable and there's a touch of the Kalomira about her, it's for the best in my opinion she goes a year older and more prepared.

This is isn't really special enough for me to do anything of note and it's hard to see what Fokas will do to elevate this. Whilst a little different, this does face the competition from all the other female pop this year.

My opinion hasn't really changed in months on this, I've always seen Greece as a safe qualifier and likely to be mid table and that's still the case. For what it's worth, I think this probably opens semi 2 as well, but I don't think that will hurt its qualification hopes too much.

Personal Rating: 7/10 Competitive Rating: 7/10 Early Prediction: Semi 2 4th-8th, 11th-15th in the final.
